Kobe Bryant spent 20 years as the face of Los Angeles, but on NFL Sundays he was a Philly kid through and through. Now his Eagles fandom gets a full shoe. Vanessa Bryant unveiled the Nike Kobe 5 Protro "Eagles" in a look-ahead at upcoming Protro releases, and Sneaker News followed today with a full set of detailed images.
The pair (style code JF1792-300, listed by House of Heat as Pine Green / Stealth / Vast Grey) takes its color from the Eagles' throwback Kelly Green uniforms. The upper is lush green suede with a synthetic heel cup, and the Swoosh is done in dark grey chenille, like a patch off an old varsity jacket, with white hits finishing off the rest. Sneaker News points out the Kobe 4 "Girl Dad" already hinted at the Eagles connection, and the most lasting image of that fandom is the clip of Kobe holding baby Bianka as the clock hit zero on the Eagles' first Super Bowl title in 2018.
The Nike Kobe 5 Protro "Eagles" is currently expected to release on January 16, 2027, for $200 through Nike SNKRS, per Sneaker News and House of Heat. That's still a few months out, so treat the date as the plan, not a promise. House of Heat adds that Vanessa's preview also included a Kobe 9 Elite High with an Iron Man feel, so the 2027 Protro calendar is stacking up.
Our take: the chenille Swoosh is the move here. It turns a performance shoe into something that looks like it came out of a letterman jacket from Lower Merion, which feels right for a guy who never stopped repping where he came from. The green suede is going to be a magnet for Philly fans, and everyone else is going to want them anyway. Lakers fans, you can be cool about this. It's still Kobe.
