Ten years after James Harden's first adidas signature shoe hit the hardwood, the Harden Vol. 1 "Pioneer" is coming back — and this time the cushioning got a quiet but serious upgrade. Per adidas' announcement and today's report from Sneaker News, the U.S. drop lands October 15 for $140 in the original Core Black / Scarlet / White layout, style code BW0546 (press plates have also floated LC5090).
The silhouette still looks like 2016 on purpose: big white leather toe shroud, low-cut black upper, scarlet interior, and that off-center lace setup Brian Foresta cooked up for The Beard's step-back era. The restomod move is underfoot — Hyperboost replaces the original Boost package, the same race-day foam family that already showed up on the Anthony Edwards 3. Retro cosmetics, modern foam. That's the pitch.
adidas has already put the shoe on feet for the Asia tour circuit — Oklahoma City's Jalen Williams has been spotted in the Pioneer on the gym floor — so this isn't a vaporware anniversary slide. House of Heat has the adidas campaign frames and studio plates if you want to squint at every panel before the 15th.
Our take: most signature retros either freeze the past too hard or "update" themselves into a different shoe. This one walks the line — if you loved the Vol. 1 the first time, the Hyperboost swap is the excuse to care again without pretending 2016 cushioning still wins in 2026. Scarlet on the collar still does half the talking.
